I was just given the names of the 14 delegates from across the nation that I will have the opportunity to work with at National 4-H Conference!

To being our relationship, the following email was sent:

National 4-H Conference Delegates,

Congratulations on your selection!

I am very excited to work with you in the coming weeks to answer a challenge question for the Department of Education, on the dialogue roundtable. At National 4-H Conference, we will be working to answer a challenge question with a presentation for our federal agency. Please be checking your email, as we will have tasks to complete in preparation for Conference. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me via text, phone call, email, DM—whatever is easiest. I am very easy to get ahold of!

I am very excited to get to know each and every one of you. However, to give you a little more information about myself, I am currently a student at The Ohio State University majoring in agricultural communication and double minoring in youth development and international studies with an emphasis on international relations and diplomacy. I have been to National 4-H Conference twice before (once as a delegate and last year as a facilitator) and had the opportunity to work with the Department of Labor and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. I was an 11 year 4-H member and currently serve as a cohort leader on the National 4-H Youth Advisory Committee. My project/interest areas included dogs, pigs, leadership, community service, amongst a myriad of others. Please tell me a little about yourself by March 17, 2018.

Additionally, please view the Department of Education, our federal agency’s, website here. Before arriving at conference, everyone is expected to gather some knowledge about the round table agency and topic. I will pass along more specific information about our roundtable, in regards to research, within the next few weeks for you to review.

Our agency has challenged us with the following question: “How can students take the initiative in challenging school culture so that there is a decrease in bullying and harassment and an increase in learning through productive civil dialogue? Provide specific examples of actions and drafts of any resources needed to support these actions.”

Best,

Emma Newell

Roundtable Facilitator, Department of Education

The following email was also sent to the chaperones that will be assisting me:

Hello National 4-H Conference Chaperones!

My name is Emma Newell, and I am the 2018 Round Table Facilitator assigned to the dialogue topic that you will each be a part of. I just wanted to take a moment and reach out to you before we meet in April.

I am currently a student at The Ohio State University majoring in agricultural communication and double minoring in youth development and international studies with an emphasis on international relations and diplomacy.

I have been working with the other facilitators as well as our NIFA Liaison to prepare for the upcoming conference. We will be a part of the dialogue Round Table and the 14 delegates in the group will be creating a presentation for the Department of Education. I have already contacted the delegates, and have attached the message they received to the end of this email.

I look forward to getting to know you and working with you and the delegates to create a presentation for the Department of Education. If you could please take a moment to email me back so I know you received this message, I would greatly appreciate it. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Best regards,

Emma Newell

With that, our work as a team begins!
